Welcome everyone to Hunting Tips and Tricks where our focus is on helping hunters bag more game by sharing information, instruction and suggestions aimed at improving your hunting skills and success.

I am a hunter. If there is something like a hunting gene, I’m pretty sure I’ve got it. I’ve been hunting since I was eight years old. That’s over 60 years, now. The only reason it isn’t more is that my mother refused to let me go out hunting with my father before I turned eight!

I started out the first several years as a driver, learning how to circle around a predefined area and walk back toward the armed members of the party, pushing the game ahead of me as I went. The technique was used successfully from everything from small game like squirrels and rabbits to big game like whitetails and a variety in between including pheasants and grouse. Over the course of those early years, I eagerly absorbed and applied many hunting tips so willingly and patiently taught by my older and wiser hunting companions.

I wasn’t allowed to have a real firearm until I was twelve. My dad bought me a Remington single shot, bolt action .22 caliber rifle and we had to cut about three inches off the stock so I could comfortably sight it. We kept the scrap piece of the stock, of course, and added it back on to the stock in three pieces as I grew. It had a peep sight that I learned marksmanship skills with, and when I was fifteen and earning money working summer jobs, I bought a 1.5X6 scope for it. That was the major push that made me a life-long advocate for good hunting rifle scopes. As for the single shot capability, my dad always told me if I needed more than one shot I didn’t deserve to bag the game anyway!

Since those early hunting years, I’ve developed and expanded my hunting skills and experiences and along the way have collected a wide variety of knowledge and practical application, ideas and insights, stories and tales, and I’m going to share these hunting tips with those of you that enjoy similar interests in this website.

One of the more valuable things I learned early on is that there is more to learn and experience about any given subject than one person can possibly gain firsthand by themselves. This is a good thing overall. Because, while we all would of course like to have as many of the positive and enjoyable experiences that we can relevant to a favorite interest such as hunting, we likewise want to avoid as many of the negative and painful ones as we can.

Well, with a robust repository of information and instruction, do’s and do not’s, suggestions and cautions on the topic of hunting, everyone can enjoy the best of the best and avoid the worst of the worst! So, I invite you to browse and learn and apply and share the postings that I present here as often and as enthusiastically as I deliver them!
